IT administrators have long bemoaned the task of implementing a scalable, affordable, reliable messaging architecture, from the pain involved in managing message metadata to the inefficiency of multiple message storage requirements.
Leveraging the open-source community and MySQL’s database expertise and efficiency, Zimbra has altered the way administrators control their email servers through the development of a more effective back end for its messaging architecture. Open source technologies such as Linux and MySQL enable Zimbra to provide better caching and reduced write overhead, which dramatically decreases costs - a longstanding barrier to scalability in messaging systems. Additionally, the solution is easier to deploy and manage than legacy collaboration solutions.
The Zimbra Collaboration Suite is also heavily based on AJAX technologies. Zimbra President Scott Dietzen will provide an overview of the lessons learned from building an enormous AJAX application, speaking to the audience about this “Ajaxian Journey.” He’ll cover where AJAX has been, its present state and most importantly, where it is going. He’ll also discuss lessons learned in AJAX-based development and implementation and will take a look how innovative uses of AJAX will impact the future of technology.
This session will also explore ways in which MySQL, Zimbra and the open source community have helped to improve the performance and flexibility of a modern messaging/applications architecture:
