MySQL AB ran a set of benchmarks of MySQL Cluster Carrier Grade Edition against the DBT2 benchmark. Ultimately, MySQL Cluster was able to reach 100,000 transactions per minute in an 8-node configuration. This showed impressive scaling improvements when compared to a 2-node cluster which was able to obtain 26,000 transactions per minute. These performance improvements were realized through the use of new Multi Core Intel Xeon servers based on the Intel Core ™ micro architecture. In addition, Dolphin Express interconnects and enhanced the scalability of MySQL Cluster to dramatically new levels. The performance levels demonstrated in this benchmark, prove that MySQL Cluster enables customers to deliver high-performance solutions across multiple industries including telecommunications and eCommerce.
"MySQL's high-availability cluster database on Multi-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor based systems brings tremendous value to telecom customers, providing a cost effective solution for high performance databases on energy efficient servers,"
Paresh Pattani Intel Director of High Performance Technical Computing, Software and Solutions Group

Figure 1.
DBT-2 simulates a workload that represents a wholesale parts supplier operating out of a number of warehouses and their associated sales districts. The workload involves transactions from a number of terminal operators centered around an order entry environment. These transactions include entering and delivering orders, recording payments, checking the status of the orders, and monitoring the level of stock at the warehouses.
Tests were performed on version MySQL Cluster Carrier Grade Edition 5.1. The hardware consisted of dual-socket 2.67 Ghz Intel Xeon 5150 dual-core nodes provisioned with 4GB of RAM (1GB/core). Interconnect tests featured Dolphin Express D352 based fabric v. integrated Gigabit Ethernet as baseline. Previous generation Intel testing was conducted on single-socket dual-core clusters, similarly provisioned on per-core basis and with Dolphin Express D350 based fabric.
